5 accessible boat trips

Soft breeze and tranquility... A boat tour is an activity that we love. It allows us to get away from the busy streets and discover the places from a privileged view. In today's post we have compiled 5 accessible boat trips that you can do in different destinations in the United States.

1. Chicago River

They say that one of the best ways to see Chicago is from the water. Along with the large and imposing buildings, the river runs through the center of the city and greatly embellishes the landscape.

It is common for visitors to take a Chicago river cruise to learn about the city’s architecture and/or have a cocktail or dinner on board.

Some companies have wheelchair accessible boats.  As we have mentioned in the past, Wendella Tours & Cruises and Chicago First Lady have a fleet that can accommodate wheelchairs and has adapted restrooms.

2.    Lake Powell

Located between Arizona and Utah, the artificial lake Powell has been the scene of movies such as Planet of the Apes, Maverick or Gravity. Every year, thousands of visitors choose to view the deep turquoise waters from a boat and get wonderful panoramic views of the area.

All boat tours at Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas are accessible to people with reduced mobility.

3.    Niagara Falls

Previously in our blog we have talked about the country’s waterfalls. Among them we mentioned the famous Niagara Falls, where Maid of the Mist allows you to live an unforgettable experience on an accessible electric boat.

4.    Kenai Fjords

Kenai Fjords National Park is a true glacier paradise located in southern Alaska. Some companies offer cruises that bring you close to the imposing ice masses and wildlife.

Major Marine has different boats that can accommodate wheelchairs. As specified on the official website, the Skana boat has an accessible first deck, main cabin and outside deck. In addition, it has assigned tables near the accessible restroom and dining area. Other vessels are also accessible and recommended for people with reduced mobility.

5.    Lake Havasu

Lake Havasu is one of the most beautiful lakes in Arizona. It is worth taking a boat tour and experiencing the grandeur of its coves.

Lake Havasu Boat Tours states that its Serenity Now boat, from which you can explore Lake Havasu at sunrise, is accessible to wheelchair users. The Kon Tiki Canyon Cruiser can accommodate a wheelchair up to 76.2 centimeters wide. Thus, the docks have ramps for easy access.

Tell us, have you taken any of these accessible boat tours? Would you recommend any others?
