Accessible places to visit this fall in the United States

The country's national parks are dressed in a blanket of leaves in ocher and reddish tones. Many cities beautify in autumn and celebrate the best festivals. It's time to grab your backpack, bundle up and enjoy all the good things this season brings.

In this week’s post we want you to discover some of our favorite places to visit this time of year. Likewise, we detail the accessibility information of each one of them.

Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway, known as “America’s Favorite Drive,” connects Shenandoah National Park with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Unparalleled views are discovered along this drive to the top of the Appalachian Mountains.
The landscape of the route is dyed in vibrant colors in mid-October. Therefore, this date is excellent to visit it.
The scenic lookouts along the Parkway are paved. There are also trails accessible to wheelchair users (listed on the Blue Ridge Parkway and National Park Service websites) and accessible visitor centers.

Many locals recommend visiting New Mexico in the fall. The weather is nice and Albuquerque hosts the world’s largest hot air balloon festival.
Located north of Alameda Boulevard, the Balloon Fiesta Park has parking for people with disabilities. In addition, it has a wheelchair or scooter rental service near the information booths.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is always noted for its unique landscape with dramatic sandstone cliffs. But its beauty intensifies in the fall. Trees with warm-toned leaves contrast with the blue waters of Lake Superior.
In the surroundings you can find paved trails, viewpoints or accessible observation platforms, adapted visitor centers and parking areas for people with disabilities. We recommend that you consult the website of the National Park Service to locate these accessible services.

New York City

We are in one of the best seasons to go to New York. The weather is more pleasant than in summer, and there are fewer crowds than at Christmas.
If you plan to visit this iconic city, we recommend downloading our New York Accessible City Guide. It is free and contains useful information on the main tourist attractions.

Acadia National Park

Located on Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park is the “crown jewel of the North Atlantic Coast.” Fall foliage dazzles the first few weeks of October, and we don’t want you to miss out on the show.
You should know that there are accessible buses to comfortably see the most outstanding sites of the park.

Tell us, what other accessible places would you recommend us to visit this fall?
