Miami Book Fair: Accessibility & Events

It's only a few days until the return of the largest literary festival in the United States. Downtown Miami is getting ready to welcome hundreds of prestigious authors and avid readers. In this week's post we tell you about the accessibility of the event and the most outstanding program.

Miami celebrates one more year its popular Book Fair. This 2022, the event will take place from November 13 to 20 at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College. Visitors can get books in different languages, special editions, handmade items, original comics, and autographed copies at the open-air market. In addition, there will be interesting presentations by renowned authors.
The street fair is open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday. To accompany the literary festival, there is live music and food stalls.
Not only adults can enjoy. Children’s Alley makes it fun for little ones to learn through storytelling, drama, dance and other artistic activities.
Admission is free on Friday, while other days it’s $10 ($8 for visitors ages 13-18 and over 62). We recommend you buy them online. Children have free admission.

The author talks, the “Evening with”, begin on Sunday the 13th. That opening day, actor Kevin Nealon will discuss his book I Exaggerate: My Brushes with Fame, where he shares his cartoons and his moments on the set of Saturday Night Live. He will be joined by Alan Zweibel, original writer for the comedy show.
Prominent personalities such as the journalist Michael Pollan or the film director John Waters will also make their presentations at other times. Likewise, young readers will be able to chat with Alex Aster, S. Isabelle or Melissa Albert, youth fantasy writers.
As is customary each year, there will also be a marked presence of Hispanic and Latino authors. The Colombian singer Juanes, the Cuban poet Carlos Pintado, the Cuban screenwriter Wendy Guerra or the Spanish writer María Dueñas, among others, will attend. The Miami Book Fair began in 1984 at the initiative of Miami Dade College educators, librarians, booksellers, and other community partners. Over time it has gained international recognition.
The pandemic transformed the celebration of the fair. Since 2020 there is also an online program for those who cannot attend in person.


The official Miami Book Fair website indicates that all places where the literary event is held are accessible to wheelchair users. Personal assistants can enter for free.
