This is how the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics have gone

The Paralympic Winter Games have ended successfully. The closing ceremony was held on Sunday at the Beijing National Stadium. In difficult times, the Chinese capital has witnessed a new generation of promising athletes. The future looks full of hope for the world of sport.

In this week’s post we tell you about the results and highlights of this great competition.

China has been able to demonstrate excellence in the organization of the Games and in the medal standings. The Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games have been successfully carried out thanks to a complex infrastructure and a perfectly planned logistics chain. Also, the host country has led the podium with a total of 61 medals (18 golds, 20 silvers and 23 bronzes).

Despite the political context, Ukraine took a brilliant second place with 29 medals (11 golds, 10 silvers and 8 bronzes). It was followed by Canada, France and the United States.

These Paralympics have been full of exciting moments. In Para Alpine Skiing, 22-year-old Norwegian Jesper Pedersen stood out with a total of four golds and one silver. The Aigner brothers from Austria have been very present on the podium. In addition, other athletes achieved their best marks, such as Japan’s Momoka Muraoka, who won three gold medals in women’s downhill, giant slalom and seated supergiant.

Ukrainian athletes demonstrated their dominance in Parabiathlon: 8 golds, 9 silvers and 5 bronzes in this discipline. Oksana Shyshkova and Vitalii Lukianenko shone. Oksana Masters and Kendall Gretsch also stood out for Team USA.

The United States has great players in Para Ice Hockey. The team once again proved its worth and experience.

China won ten medals in Para Snowboarding. Athletes such as Li Lijia, Wu Zhongwei and Qi Sun made this achievement possible. Likewise, the Asian giant also won gold in Wheelchair Curling.

The XIII Paralympic Winter Games started on March 4 and ended on March 13. The athletes performed a total of seventy-eight events in six sports: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, wheelchair curling and adapted ice hockey

The venues were located in the heart of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. A total of 520 athletes from 47 countries participated. It was originally planned for 650 athletes, but Russia and Belarus were eventually excluded.

The Games had “Shuey Rhon Rhon (雪容融)” as its mascot, which takes the form of a traditional Chinese lantern. The cute character symbolizes dialogue between cultures, inclusion of people with disabilities, prosperity and warmth.

Here we have simply left you with a summary of the Paralympics. However, we give our full support to each of the athletes who have given their all to represent their countries. Thank you so much!
